MASON-RICE IS GOING GREEN!
The Mason-Rice PTO is committed to teaching our children to be responsible stewards of the environment through education and example. Please help us show our children how to care for the environment by following a few simple steps:
Let Your Child Know Mason-Rice Has Single Stream Recycling
Paper, plastic, cardboard, metal containers, juice boxes and milk cartons can be tossed into the classroom recycling bins just like at home. BUT food waste, styrofoam, juice pouches or plastic bags still need to go in the trash bin.
Make Lunches Waste Free
Send your child in with lunch that has only reusable or recyclable containers. Most reusable containers can be washed in the dishwasher or wiped clean.
Support Our Composting Program At Mason-Rice Events
Our PTO uses compostable paper goods, cups, and flatware. Toss them in the marked composting bin at events and they will be taken to the Newton Community Farm for composting.
Turn Your Engine Off At The Curb
It’s bad for our children’s lungs and wastes fuel.
And it’s against the law to idle your car in front of schools!
Walk or Bike to School
Exercise benefits academics.
The Mason-Rice PTO’s Green Team is a group of parents who have a shared interest in learning, practicing, and educating our children about how we can take better care of the earth, and, ultimately, ourselves. Our mission is “to promote earth-friendly practices within our Mason-Rice community.” Join the Green Team! Contact us at
