The Mason-Rice community is strong and vibrant, and part of a larger community. The PTO recognizes the importance to help raise awareness and understanding the differences and complexities of that larger community we live in. View current year Committee Chairs
To support that effort, the PTO has organized some committees and teams and provides funds to enable us to support many outreach programs including:
- Social Action Committee is dedicated to generating enthusiasm for social action, volunteerism, and philanthropy in our school comm unity. Our Social Action Committee provides a framework for school community-driven efforts to harness the collective energy of the entire school community for the greater good. The efforts will include kids-driven projects, as well as family-oriented projects and the green efforts. The purpose is to inspire children to have a lifelong commitment to take action to help address local and global problems. Learn more about our initiatives.
- Green Team. "To promote earth-friendly practices within our Mason-Rice community. "Compost, Recycle, Carbon Footprints, Sustainability, “Go Green” - - what do these mean? Why should we care? The Green Team is a group of parents who have shared interest in learning, practicing, and educating our children about how we can take better care of the earth and, ultimately, ourselves. Through a series of six units over three years, students gain a better understanding of the universality of human differences. Each unit includes “hands-on” activities, videotapes, group discussions, simulation activities, and discussions with a guest speaker. Click to learn more the unit topics. If you are interested in helping out during the class units, please contact Rachel Segal (Grade 4), Michele Rosenthal (Grade 5) and Elizabeth Blumberg (Grade 3). Sessions are held throughout the year. Check the online calendar for dates/times.
- Respect for Human Differences (RHD) and Anti-Bullying Committee. Mason-Rice is committed to "Just say No to the bully!" This committee of parents and teachers work together with principal Mark Springer, on ideas and actions that can reinforce understanding of bullying and our anti-bullying policy in the classroom and school community.
